Tirschenreuth Fire Station – Function and Visibility
The new construction of the Tirschenreuth fire station resulted in a functionally well-designed building that also serves as an urban landmark at the town entrance. The building, realized by Brückner & Brückner Architekten together with Schulz & Schulz Architekten, was completed in 2019 and offers a usable area of 1,662 m² for emergency vehicles, equipment, and training rooms—as well as a modern infrastructure for efficient fire service operations. The architecture combines visibility, security, and identity. Large-scale glazing makes the vehicles visible from the outside and emphasizes the fire brigade's operational readiness. The training tower serves not only as a training module but also as a striking landmark.
The façade made of charred wood references the local term "Red Earth" and gives the building a regional identity. A central concern during implementation was an access control concept that, on the one hand, allows authorized persons uncomplicated access at any time, but on the other hand reliably protects security-relevant areas from unauthorized entry. The aim was to meet the high requirements for flexibility and protection of infrastructure and equipment.

The electronic locking system ixalo Technology SE with associated transponders was used. It enables differentiated access control and ensures that firefighters always have quick and secure access to emergency vehicles and technical rooms—while sensitive areas remain protected. The system is scalable and thus supports future expansions or organizational adjustments. In this way, the solution makes a significant contribution to the operational capability and operational safety of the Tirschenreuth fire brigade.
The innovative electronic locking system ixalo with SE technology offers flexible expandability and can be combined with existing mechanical components. In addition, the ixalo hardware and BKS KeyManager software ensure maximum security. The energy-efficient SE technology enables a high number of locking cycles (up to 600,000) and long standby times (up to 10 years).
